Sublime, melancholic dream-pop/indie disco from sibling duo, Hockeysmith. Apparently conceived in a Cornish caravan park by Georgie and Annie Hockey-Smith in 2012, the project blends airy, almost intangible shoegaze harmonies with lean, stripped down grooves and an underlying romantic intent. The vocals and chiming guitar on A-side, 'Let's Bang' clearly nod to Cocteau Twins for the first minute or so, before an unexpected drop out and reappearance resets the track as a canny, slow-burning epic groover perhaps closer to Grimes, but still with a washed-out UK bleakness and outsider house pulse. B-side, ' Now I Want To' ups the widescreen pop factor but with beautiful restraint, eschewing any obvious trickery or bombast to build a huge swell of pensive energy which matters so much more when it consumes us in the teasing climax. Terrific debut.
